Me and the Gerard got to talking about sweets. Sweets are good. Though sometimes not - he bought a bunch, but I passed on them as I find it easy enough to get a horrific screaming headache on the London Underground without chemical assistance.
But anyway, we were talking about sweet crazes when we were little. You remember there were times when different sweets were particularly popular? Like when everyone was buying Hubba Bubba, or those super sour ball things, or Push Pops? Man, those were revolting. Though not quite as revolting as Ring Pops, which resulted in everyone covering their hands in a disgusting sticky mess of saliva and dissolved boiled sweet. Nice.
Then there were all the sweets that everyone passed around like drugs because they were full of E numbers that were supposed to make you hyper. I think the blue Smarties got a bit of a reputation for that when they first came out. Seriously, I knew kids who treated the corner shop like some kind of dealership - 'here, if you eat these they make you crazy'. I don't know who's parents were stupid enough to tell their kids exactly which sweets they shouldn't be eating, but once the rumour was out there everybody wanted some ...
Then, of course, there was the joy of the machine malfunction. You know what I mean - when you found that your Kit-Kat or whatever was unexpectedly made entirely of chocolate. That was like ... a miracle. We once got a double whammy, when me and my friends bought a Cadbury's Caramel that was solid chocolate, took it back to complain and got another Caramel free. Sigh. Great days.
In non-sweet related news, have just finished reading Harry Potter and the Insane Blood Bath *ahem* I mean, Deathly Hallows. I'd been putting it off, largely because I don't have much time at the moment, and once you pick up one of those damn things, you know you're not doing anything constructive for the next twenty-four hours. At least. Unless you're my sister, in which case you probably finish reading it before you started, breaking the laws of space/time in the process.
Wasn't sure about some of the middle parts, but I've got to admit the ending was fucking awesome. A special mention here for Mrs. Weasley - can't wait to see Julie Walters doing that ...
