Apparently Amy Winehouse won the Mercury Music Prize.
What's that you say? She didn't?
No, I'm sure she must have. If anyone else had won then surely people would have been talking about this hypothetical other band. Playing live tracks by them. Stuff like that. But if you listen, I think you'll find that they're all talking about Amy Winehouse. So obviously she must have won.
... Okay, okay, I don't want anyone to accuse me of Winehouse bashing. I have no problem with the woman - I've got one of her albums, and I agree she's got a great voice. But for God's sake! Can we talk about someone else now? I mean, firstly, she sounds like she's got a whole bunch of problems at the moment, so it might be better to
leave her alone for a bit. And secondly, what about
The Klaxons (warning: link may be noisy)?! Yes, one of my favourite new bands won the Mercury Music Prize ... and no-one gives a damn. Because, look, it's Amy Winehouse! And she's doing stuff! Singing, apparently. Really, I never knew she could do that.
To be fair, I don't normally pay much attention to awards. But I find it depressing when a band I like wins, and then everyone talks about someone else because they have more interesting personal problems.
Ah, whatever, the whole thing is screwed up anyway - it's horrific the way people have been chasing her around. I wish everyone would let musicians get on with making music, and stop bothering them when they're not 'at work', as it were. Then maybe they wouldn't go bonkers all the time.
Anyway. The Klaxons are good. I'm glad they won.
