Scene 6 - Enquiries

Went to Reading on Monday, to meet up with friends, which was great. Also accidentally fell into Blackwells and knocked over some manga, so I had to buy them because they were, y'know, dented.

Got a few things, but was particularly pleased to get vol. 5 of xxxholic. I love this series - it's set in the modern day but uses a lot of creatures and stories from Japanese legends, and the artwork is gorgeous. It also has Yuko - the greedy, alcoholic space-time witch who has a wardrobe to die for (she has to be one of the few sexy manga characters who I actually do find sexy). I kind of want to be her - though I guess if you take off the 'space-time witch' bit then I practically am her.
I particularly like the way paying for things is so important in the stories - not with money but with actions or objects in equal value to what you receive. Oh, and so far no-one has said that true love will solve all your problems. Maybe they will later, but they haven't yet. And food plays a pretty big part as well - I really want to try some of the dishes they cook. Probably never going to get Fox Spirit Oden though (damn shame). Okay, Watanuki can be a bit shrill at times, but what the hey, at least he has Domeki to tell him to shut up. Not that that works.

The other good one was Planetes (I'm on vol. 3), I'll probably plug that next time.
