Today I did something I've been meaning to do for ages - I went to the Frida Kahlo exhibition in the Tate Modern. And if you don't know about it, where have you been?
I love Frida Kahlo, though I can't claim any cool points by finding out about her on my own - I hadn't heard of her before I went to see the film 'Frida'. Still, after seeing it I really wanted to know more about her (like half the population of the world apparently), and completely fell in love with her work. It was great actually seeing the paintings, as colour is such an important part of them and reproductions in books hardly ever manage to get the colours right. Most of the really famous ones were there, though there were a couple missing that I would have liked to see - Self Portrait with Cropped Hair for instance. However, there were loads that I hadn't seen before (obviously) including Self Portrait 1940 which I thought was wonderful, and I got to see Moses which was pretty intense (not sure why I'm referencing that one, as you can hardly see what's going on in most of it on the internet, but never mind).
So, yeah. Frida Kahlo's great.
