I miss the spookiness of Christmas. No-one seems to do it any more (except accidentally, like those evil half-deflated Santas you see apparently climbing through people's windows like some kind of 'Doctor Who' style invasion force (speaking of which - it's on in a bit, I should probably hurry up)) which I think is a shame.

Halloween's taken over spookiness, but personally I feel Christmas Eve and midwinter are actually a bit weirder. Halloween seems to be mainly 'Hey kids! Somethings trying to kill you! Can you guess what it is yet?', I mean, it's a bit human focused - things are always trying to get you. At this time of year, it feels more like humans are completely irrelevant - you have to stay in your house eating, drinking, making merry and trying to pretend that it's not permanantly dark and cold outside. And if you go for a walk, it feels like the time when it's most likely that Something Will Happen. Not necessarily good, not necessarily bad, but certainly different.
